ABI welcomes Scrap Metal Dealers’ Act
“The act, put forward as a private members’ bill by MP Richard Ottaway, is designed regulate the scrap metal dealers’ industry and prevent illicit activity around metal theft”.
Nick Starling, ABI’s director of general insurance said: “We welcome the new legislation and its implementation should significantly reduce metal thefts. Metal thieves put lives at risk, causing expensive damage and massive disruption.
“From delayed train journeys to loss of telephone and internet connections, to damaged churches, most people are affected by this crime. Insurers are helping their customers take sensible precautions to reduce this ever-present threat”.
