Cleaners Employed By Rolls Royce In Court Over Scrap Metal Dealing
Two male cleaners who worked for car company Rolls Royce have been caught selling on metal as scrap to dealers.
Cleaner one names John Lewis made more than £4,000 in 12 months, taking metal to a scrap dealer on “30 to 40 occasions” Derby Crown Court was told.
Cleaner two Ricky Singh helped him out on a number of occasions, Sonal Ahya, prosecuting, said, but he denied making as many trips.
Miss Ahya said “how the pair were employed by Mitie Cleaning as sub-contractors at Rolls-Royce which gave them access to a number of sites across the city and the use of a Transit van”.
Miss Ahya also said: “Rolls-Royce started an investigation into metal thefts from its sites in April 2012”.
“The police became involved and, as part of the examinations, a particular scrap merchant’s site was visited.
“They handed information over that recorded how the defendants had been to the site on a number of occasions – Mr Lewis an estimated 30 or 40 times”.
“Receipts were produced as well, and one of the merchant’s employees told how he got to know the defendants well and identified them to the police.”
