Huckleberry Mine expansion OK’d

Vancouver-based miner Imperial Metals has announced that the Huckleberry Mine in northern B.C. has approved an approximately 18-month extension of the mine.
Originally planned for shut down in mid-2010, a new plan for the copper and molybdenum mine will extend milling operations to the end of 2011, said Imperial Metals, a join owner of the mining project with a consortium of Japanese companies.
Annual estimated copper production will be 40 million pounds per year.
The mine extension keeps about 275 jobs in place, considered particularly important as the forest sector in northern B.C. has been hit hard by a collapse in the U.S. housing sector and a global recession.
