Molybdenum Sheets

Molybdenum is a silver-coloured metal, originally discovered in 1754, used today primarily for its extremely high melting point, which makes it perfect for use in high-temperature, high-pressure applications like aerospace engineering, furnace engineering, rocketry and military armour.

Mistaken for a lead compound when it was first categorised, molybdenum was named after molybdena, the ancient Greek word for “lead”. However, it is not related to lead in any way – it is its own unique element on the periodic table, with some of the most striking characteristics of any metal.

High-Quality Molybdenum TZM Sheets

The first and most important characteristic of molybdenum sheets is their incredible melting point, which, at 2896K, is the sixth-highest melting point of any known element. Molybdenum sheets also maintain their strength and integrity at very high temperatures, making them resistant to weakening and softening at high heats. This trait, coupled with their good electrical and thermal conductivity, makes molybdenum sheets perfect for use in high-performance heating elements, plasma sprayers and rocket nozzles, among other things.

Molybdenum TZM sheets feature a similarly high melting point, maintaining their strength the same way up to very high temperatures, but also include increased material strength and durability and increased resistance to thermal creep thanks to their blend of titanium, zirconium and molybdenum. Molybdenum TZM sheets also sport an increased recrystallization temperature compared to pure molybdenum sheets, and are frequently used in industry in situations where extremely high melting points must meet increased mechanical strength, such as in jet engines and satellite construction.
